Shibganj (Bogra) Correspondent: A memorandum and human chain were organized demanding that Aligram, which is part of Ward No. 3 of Buriganj Union No. 6 of Shibganj Upazila of Bogra, be included in Ward No. 9 of the neighboring Bihar Union, be canceled and kept in Buriganj Union as before. On June 21, the people of the village submitted separate memorandums to the Deputy Commissioner of Bogra and Shibganj Upazila Executive Officer.
The memorandum mentioned that about 3,500 people live in Aligram and the total number of voters is 2,677. About 90 percent of the voters who participated in the public hearing voted in favor of staying in Buriganj Union. The locals said that taking the initiative to change the union without paying attention to that opinion is against the demands of the majority.
Strongly condemning the separation of the village, several villagers said that Aligram No. 6 has been included in Ward No. 3 of Buriganj Union since the time of their fathers and grandfathers. All government documents including birth registration, national identity card, land register, inheritance certificate are recorded at the address of Buriganj Union. The common people will have to face long suffering and additional financial expenses in correcting existing documents due to the change of union.
The memorandum also said that Aligram is more connected to Buriganj Union in terms of education, health and civic amenities. Since the government primary school, madrasa, community clinic and market of the union are close to the village, the residents have been receiving these services easily. They expressed their fear that the suffering of students, patients and the common people will increase if the union is changed. In addition, the issue of security and social stability has also been highlighted. The locals claim that Aligram has been maintaining a peaceful environment for a long time. Therefore, respecting public safety, administrative continuity and the opinions of the people, Aligram has been called to be retained in Ward No. 3 of Buriganj Union. The memorandum further states that if the ward is abolished and included in Bihar Union, the posts of elected ward members will be abolished, the polling stations will be changed and various government records including national identity cards, voter lists, land records will need to be revised, which may cause public suffering and waste of state resources. The locals expressed hope that the administration will decide to retain Aligram in Ward No. 3 of Buriganj Union No. 6, considering the opinions given by the people in the public hearing, public signatures and public interest as before.
